Super Hill Slide Jam 2014 (PICS) English Version
presented by Fun Waves
Yesterday SkateSlateJapan’s Yuji Fujiyama posted a detailed article on what’s going down on October 19th. With less than a month to go we decided that there are a lot of English speaking skaters in Japan that also deserve to know just how rad the Super Hill Slide Jam Event is. Please read on to find out a little about this event and why it’s so important that you show up this year more than any.
Japan’s Longskateboarding scene is growing fast. You wouldn’t know it though since many of the sessions are still kept discreet, under the radar and usually way up in the mountains. There’s many reasons for this but the main factor is safety. The “Super Hill” is always going to be a special hill for riders in Japan because it will be remembered as the hill that changed a lot of lives for skaters that were interested in dabbling in the art of downhill skateboarding. Anybody from hardcore downhill riders to cruisers that enjoy the beach ride, this area is awesome. The location of the Super Hill is in the Shonan area.
This area is famous in Japan for it’s surf culture so we hope that on October 19th Surfers will take a break from the waves and drive up to this very convenient location to watch some of Japan’s best Longboarders do their thing. This is the 3rd year in a row that Fun Waves Surf and Skate Shop in Chigasaki has hosted the event. Rumour has it that this will be the last year for an “official” event where riders from all over Japan can congregate for some thrashin’ fun.
Although this hill is special to a lot of skaters because of it’s pristine butter smooth pavement, no vehicles and perfect location (Bus Access) we thought it would be beneficial to mention that it is also a great place for people to learn to ride. The advanced steeper part of the hill is where all the top riders will be showcasing their talent. However, at the bottom of the hill there is a mellow grade that is ideal for new skaters that want to learn the basics of Longskate. Keep in mind that many of the skaters on this hill that are comfortable with elevated speeds all started somewhere. We hope that you can come out and keep an open mind to getting involved in this fantastic community.
